Historic Renovation

American Antiquarian Society; Worcester, Massachusetts
Architect: Shepley Bulfinch Richardson Abbott

A few features to this project created challenges. The site is small in proportion to the building and is situated on a slope. To expand the existing parking lot, another goal of the Society, the preconstruction team created a design that minimized the amount of expensive retaining wall and sitework.

Linbeck is worked with the client to create an efficient move of the materials and to reduce the amount of disruption for the Society. To further ensure the protection of the collection, a dehumidifier and HVAC system was installed to allow the collections to be preserved in an ideal humidity and temperature environment.

St. Anne's Church; Houston, Texas
Architect: Ray Bailey

The $1.6 million renovation and restoration of this 1939 church offered numerous challenges to Linbeck. Recognized as Houston's largest inner city parish, the church required numerous upgrades and refinishes within a compressed 40-day schedule.

Linbeck's main challenge involved the elevation, enlargement and refurbishing of the entire sanctuary, comprised primarily of millwork. A baptistery was added, the flooring was replaced and elevated with new stone, and the pews were refinished and realigned. In keeping with the authenticity of the existing sanctuary, the coffered ceilings were repaired and refinished to match the original hand painted designs. Numerous statues and details were restored, as were many other details in the church.

Rice University-Keck Hall and North Addition; Houston, Texas
Architect: FKP Architects

The owner's decision to retain the existing historic landmark structure, while demolishing the entire interior, provided numerous challenges to the construction team. The completed renovation provides 105,000 SF of wet lab space, faculty offices, and research space to approximately sixteen faculty members, and 75-100 undergraduate and graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and associated research staff.

Yale University-Berkeley College; New Haven, Connecticut
Architect: Kieran, Timberlake Associates

A comprehensive renovation of one of Yale’s gothic residential colleges. The project entailed the renovation and below grade expansion of over 128,000 GSF including 220 student rooms; a 7,000 SF mansion for the college master; a full service kitchen, servery and dining hall; library; seven faculty apartments and administrative areas. New student life spaces included a multipurpose athletic room, weight room, a student café, computer room, wood shop, print shop, acoustical music practice room and a game room.
