Overview

The American Antiquarian Society (AAS) hired Linbeck to serve as Construction Manager for a major collections-storage addition to their existing library, listed on the Register of Historic Places. Founded in 1812, the AAS maintains the most comprehensive collection of books, pamphlets, newspapers and broadsides printed in the country through 1876. To expand the library’s storage space, Linbeck added a new, two-story, 12,000 SF vault, outfitted with climate controls to optimize the storage and preservation of historic media. We also added life safety systems and provided limited renovations of the existing 75,000 SF building, taking care to preserve the building’s original elements and finishes. The project required coordinating with the Massachusetts Historical Commission, Worcester Historical Commission, Worcester Conservation Commission, and Worcester Planning and Zoning Commission.
