Description
The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is dedicated to promoting lifelong learning. Initially opened in 1945, this 145,000 SF expansion and historic renovation incorporated four unique structures into the museum: the domed Noble Planetarium, the cantilevered energy gallery roof stretching over a ribbon of glass, the urban lantern (the central entrance tower), as well as the renovation to the IMAX theater and lobbies. Linbeck demolished more than three-quarters of the existing museum to support this new vision, salvaging 21,000 SF of the north end to house the renovated IMAX theater. The project also incorporated a Cattle Raisers Museum, which can be likened to building a museum within a museum. Additionally, the fast-tracked project required installation of 76,000 SF of exhibits. Linbeck meticulously defined and managed all construction activities to keep the schedule on track and ensure a strong finish.
