Description
Continuing a multi-year partnership with Rothko Chapel, Linbeck’s most recent work on campus has introduced a new Administration Building on their North Campus (accompanied by 11,000 SF of landscaping) and the addition of a half-acre Meditation Garden on the South Campus. To make room for the two-story Administration Building, Linbeck relocated an existing bungalow using Ivory soap, an innovation that was simple, yet highly effective. Features of the building include its Acoya wood façade and wall of windows that usher in an abundance of natural light inside. Across the street, a new Meditation Garden acts as the gateway into the Chapel. Designed by Nelson Byrd Woltz Architects, the garden features a grove of trees set within a decomposed granite plaza and surrounded by native shrubs and ground cover. It is illuminated by a subtle arrangement of tree downlighting, light poles, and bollards, a configuration developed by lighting designer George Sexton Associates.
