Overview

Outfitted for cutting-edge laboratory work and theoretical and computational investigations, the BioScience Research Collaborative (BRC) is a ten-story research center that sits on 2.9 acres in the Texas Medical Center, just adjacent to the Rice University campus. The BRC supports research for bioengineering, biochemistry, optics, nanotechnology, pure chemistry, modeling, and next-generation computational/computer development, and houses offices, a robust scientific marketplace (communal area with imaging and microscopy labs, classrooms, vivarium, and auditorium), cafes, retail space, and an outdoor plaza on the ground level. The most striking element of the building is its open cylindrical volume, which provides space for intellectual and social exchange. The BRC is a LEED Gold Certified building.
